Step 1

There was a recent study on the key skills that is on high demand in the UAE and has been highlighted as critical for the business expansion and competitiveness by a group of researchers at Qatar University. Therefore, it is worth to review the following skill-set to start with and to ensure that these are highlighted somehow in your CV, Covering letters.

1.      Communication and interpersonal skills,

2.      Teamwork,

3.      Motivation and leadership,

4.      Critical thinking,

5.      Creative thinking and problem-solving,

6.      Flexibility and adaptability,

7.      pre-graduate work experience;

8.      Time management and self-management, and

9.      Technological skills.

Step2

Customise your CV with every role and read the job descriptions couple of times before applying. It is worth to note down few bullet points of the headings and then think how the same can be matched with your experience. For example : Liaison with multiple stakeholder. So if you have worked in such environment at your home country, paraphrase the same. Coordination with various departments.. etc

Sales and marketing is all about – CONNECT+ COMMUNICATE +CONVINCE. So, I find it very useful to follow the targeted companies where I would be interested to work on Linkedin and Twitter without bothering the HR or key people directly as a stranger from that particular organisation .

However, if I see someone really interesting then at times I send request with connection but I ensure that I am drafting a short and to the point note that why I am trying to be connected without sending a random request.

Step3

Communicate-  I try to put relevant comments on the topics that are of my interest on Linkedin for which I would do a quick study about the latest trend, news etc. just to ensure that I understand the topic.

Convince- whenever I see an interesting job vacancy, I apply through a covering letter. I use this medium as a platform to demonstrate the relevant skills with precise bullet points and match it as per the job requirement, expertise and conclude why it is a good match. Please note, I do not apply to a role randomly or just with simple key words of sales /account management etc.

Step 4

Dedicate some good amount of time in online researching about the potential industry, market, news etc.  If it is too boring for you then, just simply go to the blogs on bayt.com and stay up to date.

Step 5

Don’t give up and continue exploring the following websites until you get some results. Here your patience and attitude will take you to the next stage. This is the mantra of sales, more number of calls, more number of prospects, more number of leads, finally the converted sales.

1.      JobHunt HR & Management Consultancy

2.      Bayt.com

3.      Kershaw Leonard

4.      Hays

5.      NADIA

6.      BAC Middle East

7.      Charterhouse

8.      Michael Page

I hope this helps and by the way, please do not forget to let us know once you get your dream job. All the best.
