It depends on your location. Here in Saudi Arabia you are limited with options as the major players such as Amazon haven't reached us just yet (they are planning to). I found Souq.com to be a good enough comprimise. Across Europe and North America you obviously have the top 2 in Ebay and Amazon. They are a little different from the rest when it comes to srategies for selling products. The competetion is high so you must have something unique or special to be very succesful. Alternatively you can understand the metrics for attracting customers, which include prices, reviews, picture quality, and etc. Another option is PPC, pay per click, but be careful when using that method as that itself needs understanding. If you're new to this I suggest you find a popular local online consumer to consumer e-commerce platform. Otherwise go read and learn about Amazon to fully understand the metrics to be succesful. Hope this helps

Amazon and EBay are not just leader when it comes to buying things, It's a great place to sell them as well. It remains one of the biggest destinations if you have used goods or your own products and you want to put them up for sale. But I dont think they provide their services for free. They have their own fee standards.

If you talk about amazon. there are no insertion fee at amazon. However you will either pay a $0.99 fee per item or a monthly fee of $39.99 for a pro-merchant subscription. You will pay a percentage of the Sale Price as a 'referral fee.'

At Ebay, If and when an item sells, you also have to pay eBay a flat 10% of the final sale price, including postage. This applies to every item, including those listed for free.

So If you want to sell your products without paying referral fee or selling fee, Craiglist is the best choice in this case. Craiglist is a huge classified site and it's user base is massive. There is no fee for listing your products, no middle man, and no one in between you and the buyer.
