If a Candidate is not performing as expected, what would you do?

You have been assigned to work with a new team hire to help further this candidate’s product knowledge and experience. However, you notice that this candidate is not performing as expected. How do you deal with this?

We have to find root cause of the reason of candidates poor performance . There may be some real reason either professional or personal front , that is why he/she is not doing well . 

In case any motivational issues , it is project manager to have broad view of that . Even after all this reason eliminated , the candidates is not performing well then we have to think of replacement . As project will suffer .....

Hope an employer hire a candidate after having an interview, There the employer could check a candidates knowledge, skills abilities and proficiency. Employer only hire a candidate after cross checking his abilities. So we should give him some more tasks with prescribed time. then only he can improve his performance. I think So

At first you need to make an ice breaking relationship with him but don't loose your authority.As a result he will depend on you share you everything and you can detect the problem and give him counseling.
