The plant I am auditing has 200 employees. They have a main performance indicator matrix, reviewed monthly by the board, of 54 indicators.

A) A minimum of indicators is required by ISO TS. It includes quality performance, cost, environment, health and safety.

B) Main performance indicators should not be more than for any middle size company, otherwise it is too complicated to follow. It may include, cost, environment, health and safety.

C) There should be only one indicator, linked to return on investment.

54 is a good number. However 6-15 is the span of control of a human being. So, minimum 6 & maximum 15 indicators can be there for effective monitoring & control.

yes I agree that a minimum of indicator is required yet 54 is a manageable number.

In my experience, KPI's should be limited to 5-6. Other parameters shall be linked to check points and managing points of individuals, so that everything is monitored and reviewed periodically
