Team motivation is the key point in team building. Understand strength and weakness of your team members, strengthen them in the areas which they want. Support them in the areas where they are loosing control. Create a feel between the the members that this is our team and we need to work together to achieve the goal.
In my view, a true team leader is the one who knows his/her team very deeply and the team has a full trust on their team lead. In case of any problem, one to one communication with team is always a very beneficial practice in HR. But in some problems, the team leader cannot document the conversation, if it is of a personal nature. Yes if it is related to workplace then with the permission of team member the lead can document the conversation, and afterward facilitate him/her with the more professional decision. A consistent verbal communication sessions can solve any problem. On the other hand the higher management is always looking forward to solutions of the problems brought to them, instead of listening the problem only.
A difficult team member also needs the solution to their problems, and humble conversation with the touch of respect and appreciation can even melt the most difficult worker and solve the problems.
You need to be patient with them and encourage them to participate more in team activities/work, by building good relationships with your co-workers communication will flow without any barriers and communication is key in a team's success
Every worker desires to build his/her career. Ineffective leadership built around them the difficult wall. Effective leader should first will try to understand that difficult, find root-cause, break the difficult and then see through them their easiness and willingness to work. This ability is so called skill is what required.
If you say 100 people are working are under you, atleast 10-12 will be with different opinion, character and troublesome at work. Hence Team leaders challenge is to ensure these 10-12 persons are managed better so that remaining 88-90 persons are also not disturbed. To manage these special persons we need to follow the below things,g
1) Monitor them better - Continuous and constant monitoring of these persons will create awareness both to the special and normal employees
2) Question them more often - Ask them continuously about the work, so that you will be creating an impression that you are willing to solve their issue
3) Listen to them and react better - You need to listen better and react even better to create positive impact on them
4) Use your power suitably to create fear on wrong doings - Few can be tackled using some actions and few can be tackled using continuous advise and monitoring. Learn and use judicially both accordingly to the type of person he is

A good team leader should be able to monitor everyone under his team and give equal opportunities to all the team members and solve any critical issues.
