Low calorie foods at home??? This is the good question.

Actually the foods we are preparing at the home itself low caloric when compared to foods prepared in outside restaurants, food chains. Because of using too much oils and trans fat items like Margarine, butter etc. to enhance the taste and appearance.

Moreover if you want to prepare low caloric foods, choose fresh vegetables and whole grains products in your food preparation rather than using refined products and canned vegetables.

And use to follow the cooking method like steaming, boiling, oven instead of frying and baking..

Moreover try to avoid the snacks from starchy foods like, burger and french fries and replace with fruits and nuts (Limited qty).

Cut calories with these foods

Have you ever heard the theory that certain foods have a negative caloric effect, meaning they burn more calories during the digestive process than they contribute? (Celery and apples are often cited as examples.)  Turns out the negative calorie theory is a myth. But that doesn’t mean some foods aren't incredibly low-calorie and super-nutritious. Here’s a list of our favorite almost-zero-calorie foods, with recipes. Here are some of the best low calorie recipes.

Arugula

Calories: 4 per cup  This delicate, peppery green is amazingly low in everything you don’t want, especially calories, fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol. It is, however, loaded with crunch and packed with fiber, vitamins A, C and K, and other nutrients, including potassium.  Perfect in salads, soups, or anywhere you would use leafygreens, arugula may even boost your romantic life! Evidence suggests that the minerals and antioxidants packed into dark, leafy greens are essential for our sexual health because they help block absorption of toxins that dampen the libido. This is one of the best low calorie recipes.

Ingredients

·         1 tablespoon olive oil

·         1 medium onion, chopped

·         2 garlic cloves, chopped

·         1 teaspoon cornstarch

·         6 cups low-sodium chicken broth

·         1/2 cup low-fat evaporated milk

·         2 (5-ounce) containers baby arugula

·         1/4 cup mixed chopped herbs (such as mint, chives, parsley, and tarragon)

·         4 tablespoons plain Greek yogurt

·         2 tablespoons sliced chives

Preparation

Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium-low heat. Add onion and garlic; cook until translucent (5 minutes). Stir in cornstarch; whisk in chicken broth and evaporated milk; bring to a simmer. Stir in arugula and mixed chopped herbs until wilted; cover and set aside 5 minutes. Use an immersion blender to blend until smooth. Divide among 6 bowls; garnish each with 2 tsp plain Greek yogurt and 1 tsp sliced chives.

Asparagus

Calories: 27 per cup  Asparagus is traditionally known as a detoxifying food, because it contains high levels of an amino acid that acts as a diuretic, flushing excess fluid out of your system. It also helps speed the metabolism of alcohol and other toxins (it’s a surprising hangover remedy).  Asparagus is also a powerhouse of vitamins and minerals, including vitamins A, C, E, and K, B6, folate, iron, copper, and even protein. We love the tender shoots in their most natural form, raw and tossed intosalads, or steamed. This is one of the best low calorie recipes.

Ingredients

·         1 egg yolk

·         1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil

·         1 tablespoon aged sherry vinegar

·         11/2 teaspoons chopped truffle or truffle oil

·         16 asparagus spears

·         4 ounces pancetta, sliced thin

·         8 slices whole-wheat bread

·         1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened

·         4 eggs, preferably organic

Preparation

1. To make aioli, place egg yolk in a bowl (do not use stainless steel). Slowly add oil in a thin stream, whisking constantly until thickened. Add vinegar and truffle or truffle oil.

2. Preheat grill to medium. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil, and prepare a bowl of ice water.

3. Snap off tough ends of asparagus spears. Wrap a strip of pancetta around middle of a pair of spears. Grill wrapped asparagus bundles for 6 minutes or until pancetta is crispy.

4. Using a 21/2-inch biscuit cutter, remove middle of each bread slice; discard edges. Brush both sides of each round with butter. Grill bread on each side; set aside.

5. Cook eggs for 6 minutes in boiling water; place in ice bath to cool. Peel eggs and cut them in half, being very careful not to let yolks fall out.

6. Place 2 bread rounds on each of 4 serving plates; top with some truffle aioli. Place 1 bunch asparagus on each bread round; top with an egg half.

Broccoli

Calories: 31 per cup  Broccoli is amazingly low in calories, but it always makes our list of the top superfoods for a reason. Not only is it packed with fiber, vitamins, and minerals, it contains powerful antioxidants that may improve your odds of breast cancer survival and reduce the risk of colon cancer.  The chemical in broccoli responsible for the protective effect is called sulforaphane, and yes, it gives broccoli its slightly bitter flavor. This is one of the best low calorie recipes.

Ingredients

·         Cooking spray

·         1 cup chopped broccoli

·         2 large eggs, beaten

·         2 tablespoons feta cheese, crumbled

·         1/4 teaspoon dried dill

·         2 slices rye bread, toasted

Preparation

1. Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Coat pan with cooking spray. Add broccoli, and cook 3 minutes.

2. Combine egg, feta, and dill in a small bowl. Add egg mixture to pan. Cook 3 to 4 minutes; flip omelet and cook 2 minutes or until cooked through. Serve with toast.

Broth

Calories: 10 per cup  Clear beef, chicken, miso, seafood, or vegetable broth is a dieter’s secret weapon, nourishing and filling your body for almost zero calories, especially if you toss in leafy greens and lean meat. Broth is the ultimate “high volume food,” meaning you can eat large amounts for very few calories and still feel full. It all comes down to calories per bite, or in this case, slurp.  "By choosing foods that have fewer calories per bite, your portion size grows, but your overall calorie count decreases," explains Barbara Rolls, PhD, the creator of Volumetrics and author of the new book The Ultimate Volumetrics Diet. "So you end up with a satisfying amount of food." This is one of the best low calorie recipes.

Ingredients

·         1 tablespoon unsalted butter

·         1 tablespoon olive oil

·         3 large thinly sliced Spanish onions

·         1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

·         1 teaspoon sugar

·         1 tablespoon flour

·         1/3 cup dry sherry

·         6 cups reduced-sodium chicken stock

·         1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

·         2 teaspoons reduced-sodium soy sauce

·         4–8 (3/4-inch) slices French baguette

·         4 ounces Gruyère cheese, sliced

Preparation

1. Preheat oven to 400°. Heat butter and olive oil in a heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Add onions and salt. Cover; cook 5 minutes. Uncover; add sugar. Cook, stirring frequently, 25 minutes or until onions are golden. Add flour, and reduce heat to medium-low; cook 1–2 minutes. Add sherry, scraping pan to loosen browned bits. Cook 1–2 minutes or until slightly reduced. Transfer to a saucepan. Add stock and pepper. Boil; reduce heat to low, and simmer, covered, 10 minutes. Add soy sauce.

2. Place bread slices on a baking sheet; bake 7 minutes per side or until golden.

3. Heat broiler. Ladle soup into ovenproof bowls. Top with 1–2 bread slices and 2 slices Gruyère. Broil 1–2 minutes or until cheese is bubbly.

  Brussel sprouts

Calories: 38 per cup  Brussels sprouts are super-low in calories but loaded with cancer-preventing phytonutrients andfiber. These veggies, sometimes called little cabbages, get a bad rap, but they taste great with a sweet or tangy sauce. This is one of the best low calorie recipes.

Ingredients

·         2 (8-ounce) boneless, skinless chicken breast halves

·         3/4 teaspoon kosher salt, divided

·         2 broccoli stems

·         2 tablespoons olive oil

·         2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

·         1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

·         3 cups thinly sliced Brussels sprouts (from 12 medium)

·         2 celery stalks, thinly sliced

·         1/4 cup toasted hazelnuts

·         1/4 cup fresh flat-leaf parsley, coarsely chopped

·         1 ounce Parmesan cheese, coarsely grated

Preparation

1. Place chicken and 1/2 teaspoon salt in a small saucepan and cover with water; bring to a boil. Immediately remove from heat, cover, and let stand 15 minutes. Drain chicken and run under cold water. Cool completely; set aside. Using 2 forks, shred into bite-size pieces; reserve.

2. Meanwhile, use a vegetable peeler to remove outer layer of broccoli stems; discard. Continue peeling stems into long strips. In a large bowl, whisk together oil, lemon juice, and 1/4 teaspoon each salt and pepper. Add broccoli strips, Brussels sprouts, celery, hazelnuts, parsley, and reserved chicken to bowl with dressing; toss. Divide among 4 shallow bowls. Top with cheese.

  Cabbage

Calories: 22 per cup  Crunchy, sweet, and affordable! How can a food that is so humble, with so few calories, be so incredibly good for you? Cabbage packs vitamins, minerals, fibers, and several phytonutrients thought to prevent cancer. Glucosinolate is a metabolic detoxifier and sulphoraphane is a powerful anti-carcinogenic. Purple cabbage also contains anthocyanins and other natural chemicals that boost cellular repair and block cancer growth. Eat up! This is one of the best low calorie recipes.

Ingredients

·         6 cups shredded cabbage (about 1/2 head)

·         1 cup shredded carrot (about 1 medium)

·         1 cup chopped green bell pepper (about 1 medium)

·         1/2 cup chopped red onion

·         1/2 cup sugar

·         1/2 cup white wine vinegar

·         2 tablespoons olive oil

·         1 teaspoon dry mustard

·         1/2 teaspoon celery seeds

·         1/2 teaspoon salt

Preparation

Combine first 4 ingredients in a large bowl; toss well. Combine sugar and remaining ingredients in a small bowl, stirring with a whisk. Pour vinegar mixture over cabbage mixture, tossing gently to combine. Cover; chill 1 hour.

  Lettuce

Calories: 5 per cup  You can literally eat pounds of any variety of lettuce and never gain an ounce. Romaine lettuce alone is a great source of B vitamins, folic acid, and manganese, which helps regulate blood sugar and is essential for proper immune system function.  Choose other dark green or purple varieties such as green or red leaf for the most nutrients, and toss with a zesty homemade vinaigrette. This is one of the best low calorie recipes.

Ingredients

·         1 cup cubed potatoes (1/2-inch cubes)

·         Cooking spray

·         1/8 teaspoon salt

·         1/8 teaspoon pepper

·         2 tablespoons water

·         2 tablespoons lime juice

·         1 teaspoon dark sesame oil

·         1 teaspoon honey

·         1 teaspoon grated peeled fresh ginger

·         3 cups chopped romaine lettuce

·         2 ounces grilled or baked skinless chicken, chopped

·         2 tablespoons chopped peanuts

·         1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint

·         1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro

Preparation

1. Place potato in a microwave-safe dish. Spray potato with cooking spray, and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Add 2 tablespoons water; cover and microwave on HIGH 5 minutes or until tender.

2. Combine lime juice, oil, honey, and ginger in a small bowl; stir well with a whisk.

3. Combine potato, lettuce, chicken, peanuts, mint, and cilantro in a large bowl. Add dressing; toss gently to coat.

  Beets

Calories: 37 per 1/2 cup  Beets are sweet but have very few calories—so you can have something sweet without the guilt. They also are rich in cancer-fighting antioxidants.  Beyond their rich, earthy deliciousness, beets are also a nutritional powerhouse. Rich in iron, fiber, folate, and potassium, they’re an excellent way to boost the nutrition in a salad or pasta dish. They get their gorgeous color from betanin, a potent antioxidant. This is one of the best low calorie recipes.

Ingredients

·         1 teaspoon olive oil

·         1 cup chopped onion

·         4 cups fat-free, less-sodium chicken broth

·         2 cups water

·         1/2 teaspoon salt

·         1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

·         3 medium beets, peeled and halved

·         1 medium potato, peeled and halved crosswise

·         1 bay leaf

·         1 teaspoon lemon juice

·         8 teaspoons reduced-fat sour cream

Preparation

Heat the oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add onion; sauté 3 minutes or until tender. Add broth and next 6 ingredients (through bay leaf). Bring to a boil; reduce heat, and simmer, uncovered, 20 minutes or until beets and potato are tender. Discard bay leaf.

Place one-third broth mixture in blender or food processor; process until smooth. Place puréed mixture in a large bowl. Repeat procedure twice with remaining broth mixture. Return pureed mixture to pan. Warm soup over low heat for 5 minutes or until thoroughly heated. Remove from heat, and stir in lemon juice.

Combine 1/2 cup soup and the sour cream, stirring with a whisk. Divide soup evenly among each of 8 bowls. Top each serving with 1 tablespoon sour cream mixture; swirl sour cream mixture using the tip of a knife.
