What do you think is the impact of Saudi's plan to introduce permanent residency to expats with regard to UAE's economy and investors growth?

Saudi Arabia could introduce a system for its millions of expatriates that would be similar to the Green Card system in the US. Do you think this will bring an impact to UAE's economy and foreign investors creating business here in UAE? Explain your reasons why.

If Saudi goes ahead with this plan it will have a positive impact on the Saudi economy for sure, but I wouldn't say it will benefit the economy of the UAE. As a matter of fact it might have a negative effect on it. Although personally I would love for this to happen in Saudi as it will open more opportunities for both work and investments in Saudi Arabia which is a huge market with amazing business and investment potential, I see the following might happen in the UAE:

1. Many investors who can't go to Saudi because of the current visa restrictions choose UAE as a destination of residency and investment. If those restrictions are waived, those investors will go directly to Saudi and reside / invest there without having to come to UAE.

2. If expats can be given residency and investment rights in Saudi, this will lead the way to opening free zone areas in Saudi where expats can start their own business there without having to be under the sponsorship of local Saudi residents. This is a good step of course for Saudi, but then those entrepreneurs and business people will have more options in the Gulf to start their business and some of them will not be choosing the free zones in UAE but rather go to Saudi. Again, this might have a negative impact on the flood of entrepreneurs and investors to UAE.

My conclusion is, this is a great step for both the Saudi economy and the entrepreneurs and investors who want to do business in Saudi, but it will take them away from UAE.

Yes, it will have a significant positive impact in terms of investment because it is considered a guarantee for investors

I don't think so, first of all  Saudi Arabia would never issue Green card to expats and secondly both country's economic structure too different.

Saudi and UAE run on two different models, although the probability of UAE following suit is high.
