I am apologies to answer this question because it's not my specialist field
Network/computer security is similar to your physical home security. You lock your doors and windows and set an alarm system but there is always a chance that security may be breached. Most routers default to minimal security (kind of like a new house with no locks) anyone walking by can come in with no trouble. To secure your wireless network there are a few steps you can take to make it almost completely invulnerable. 1) You will need to set the login password with a strong password. 2) I recommend using WPA encryption with the TKIP algorithm and use a different strong password for the wireless. This is usually enough security for most people but you can go further. 3) You can setup MAC filtering so that the router will only talk to the MAC addresses that you specify (computers on your network). This way the only way for a hacker to get in is to spoof your MAC address and crack your WPA password. This would take a skilled hacker a very long time and they would not bother unless there was a pot of gold to be gained.
thanks
