Chart is the way to represent the data in graphical visualization. We can present the data in a more informative, easy to understand manner by using the chart. In Excel, we have 10 types of charts.
For representation of sales performance chart, bar chart is suitable.
Say, we have manufacturers’ data with purchase price. We want to see the contribution of every manufacturer; therefore, we will use pie chart.
In the above image, we can see very clearly that which manufacturer has contributed more than others and which manufacturer has contributed the least.
After inserting a chart, there are several things you may want to change about the way your data is displayed. It's easy to edit a chart's layout and style from the Design tab.
You can also use the chart formatting shortcut buttons to quickly add chart elements, change the chart style, and filter the chart data.
If you find that your data isn't well suited to a certain chart, it's easy to switch to a new chart type. In our example, we'll change our chart from a Column chart to a Line chart.
Whenever you insert a new chart, it will appear as an object on the same worksheet that contains its source data. Alternatively, you can move the chart to a new worksheet to help keep your data organized.
Select the cells you want to chart than on Insert tab, click the desired Chart which you want to produce from the drop-down menu. Selected chart will be inserted in the worksheet.
If you're not sure which type of chart to use, Use Recommended Charts which will suggest several different charts based on the source data
Microsoft Excel provides the means to display the information in its workbooks graphically. You can make a line, bar, pie chart, or other form of graph according to your need, and you can save the charts you create as templates to make the creation of subsequent charts easier. Versions of Excel up to Excel 2003 used the Chart Wizard to offer chart options, but versions from Excel 2007 on, which are covered here, have placed the chart-making options on a ribbon for faster access.

Creating Excel Charts
Patterns and relationships between numbers are often easier to recognize when they are displayed in chart form. Our beginner's guide provides step-by-step directions for creating charts in all versions of Excel!
An Excel chart may be placed inside of a worksheet next to the data, or placed in a separate worksheet. Excel charts can also be copied to other software programs such as PowerPoint.
Now let's learn how to create charts in Microsoft Excel!
Choosing the Chart Type
Before selecting the data you wish to graph, it's helpful to have an idea of what chart type would best display your data. The type of data to be charted often determines the chart type.
If multiple chart types can be used for your data, choose the chart type that will help the user best visualize the patterns and relationships between the data values.
The 4 most popular chart types in Excel are described below, along with the best use of each chart type. A "series" is a group of related values, such as "student grades" or "quantity." For detailed descriptions of all chart types available in Excel,
TypeImageDescriptionWhen to UsePie Chart Displays the percentages of a whole for each member in a series. Excellent chart for comparing values in a single series as percentages of a whole. Column Chart Using vertical columns, displays values for one or more series over time or other category. Especially effective in comparing values for multiple series. The 3-D Column chart displays multiple series over three axes (X, Y, and Z). Bar Chart Displays values for one or more series using horizontal columns. Though useful for single or multiple series, this chart type especially effective in comparing large quantity of values in a single series. Line Chart Displays values as equally spaced points connected with a line. This chart is most useful displaying trends over time or other ordered category for single or multiple data series.© Keynote Support Selecting Data for an Excel ChartFirst, select the cells that contain the values you want shown in the chart. Click and drag the cursor from the top left cell to the bottom right cell of the worksheet - including column and row headings when possible. If your worksheet has a Totals column like in our worksheet above (e.g. Year), this data is typically not charted.
Non-contiguous rows and columns of cells can be selected by pressing and holding the Ctrl key while selecting each group of cells.
A data series is a related set of data points. In the image above, we selected a single series, Flowers. It is outlined in red. Many chart types allow us to plot multiple series. If we had selected Flowers, Shrubs, and Trees, we would be charting 3 series.
Deleting, Moving, and Resizing ChartsTo select an existing chart, click on its border, or click in an empty space inside the chart. When selecting a chart, be careful not to click on an element inside the chart or that element will be selected instead.
To delete a chart that has just been created, click the Excel Undo button. To delete an existing chart, select the chart and press the Delete key, or right-click and select Cut.
To move a chart to a different place on the worksheet, select the chart and drag it to the desired location.
To move a chart to a new or different spreadsheet in the same workbook, select the chart, right-click, and select Move Chart. Then choose the sheet or type in a new sheet name, and click OK.
To resize a chart, select the chart and drag any of the chart's corners.
Excel Chart Helpful HintsFor best results, keep the Excel chart simple and uncluttered. It is better to use multiple charts to express patterns and relationships between data than to use one chart that is too busy and over-complicated.
A colorful chart is ideal for online presentations or for printing on a color printer. But shades of gray are best for monochrome printing of charts.
