Seven Skills You Need to Be a Next-Level Admin. That's a Good news, Administrative professionals are in high demand. However, due to increasing expectations, today’s admins need much more than basic clerical skills. With technology making it easier for management to write their own correspondence, handle their schedules, and prepare presentations, the role of the admin is evolving.

The basic expectations for successful admins include: communication, organization, multitasking, and prioritization skills. To keep pace with changing administrative expectations, you’ll also need to demonstrate the following next-level abilities:

1.) Technology. Work comfortably with office software programs, including spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and presentation software. Conduct research on the internet or via industry-specific resources.

2.) Problem-solving. Resolve schedule conflicts or changes, find answers to customer concerns, work with vendors to fix issues with order fulfillment, payment of invoices, refunds or exchanges, etc.

3.) Planning. Establish office procedures and ensure resources are available to complete projects on time.

4.) Time management. Use an electronic calendar to schedule meetings and travel, and manage tasks to meet deadlines for efficient operation of an organization.

5.) Writing. Have excellent writing skills to improve the quality of correspondence, emails, and memos.

6.) Resource oversight. Order office supplies and arrange equipment maintenance to keep the office well-equipped and stocked for the staff.

7.) Management. Supervise clerical staff and handle requests from staff members for time-off, etc.

One of the most important responsibilities of an admin is to make those you are supporting look good. These next-level skills will help you do just that. In addition, they’ll keep you marketable in a competitive job market and provide greater job satisfaction.
