Pick the tool, right click, choose the "object" option and select the shape whose area you wish to calculate. AutoCAD will provide you with the calculated area in the space below. Press "esc" to de-select this tool. You can even calculate a combined area of several objects together.
Depending on what's your next command or scope, I am using left click or double left click for marking (quick or full properties dialogue). For 3D, (this is my opinion), it is better to completely isolate the object.

i just use different hatch pattern in auto-cad to show different things .

Agree with Sta Ji Sir. Orelse u can use PL command which is call poly line on the specific area for which u need to b calculated and then go to list command by F1 u can find out the area.
