APIPA: Automatic Private IP Addressing is a network process when DHCP services are not available on the network but the client devices are configured to use DHCP for their IP address configuration.

IPv4:- 4.3 billion number of addresses.

IPv6:- 5×1028   addresses per person.

(APIPA) Automatic private IP Addressing it is a feature of windows based OS it enables a computer to automatically assign itself an ip address.

Range of IPv4:-

Class A:- Range from 1.0.0.1 to 126.255.255.254.

Class B:- Range from 128.1.0.1 to 191.255.255.254.

Class C:- Range from 192.0.1.1 to 223.255.254.254.

Class D:- Range from 224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255.

Range of IPv6:-

The 128 bits of an IPv6 address are represented in 8 groups of 16 bits each. Each group is written as 4 hexadecimal digits and the groups are separated by colons (:). I.e. address 2016:0db9:0000:0000:0000:ff00:0042:8329

Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) is a network client-side process used as a fallback position when DHCP services are not available on the network but the client devices are configured to use DHCP for their IP address configuration.

IPv4:- 4.3 billion number of addresses.

Class A:- Range from 1 to 126

Class B:- Range from 128 to 191

Class c:- Range from 192 to 223

Class D:- Range from 224 to 239

Class E:- Range from 225 to 255

127 is Loop back address.

IPv6:- 5×1028   addresses per person.

Loop back ip address is ::1

No subnet mask in IPv6 (prefix)

Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) is a feature of window based operating systems that enables a computer to automatically assign itself an ip addres when there is no Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol server(DHCP) available to perform that function. APIPA provides DHCP server failover mechanism and makes it easier to configure & support small local area networks LAN

APIPA is a DHCP failover mechanism for local networks. With APIPA, DHCP clients can obtain IP addresses when DHCP servers are non-functional. APIPA exists in all modern versions of Windows except Windows NT.

Automatic Private IP Addressing. APIPA assigns a class B IP address from 169.254.0.0 to 169.254.255.255 to the client when a DHCP server is either permanently or temporarily unavailable.

APIPA mease Automatic Provide Internet Port Address.

IPv4 link-local addressing uses a block of addresses reserved by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). This address block range is 169.254.1.0 through 169.254.254.255. The IPv6 protocol requires that an OS assign a link-local address to network interfaces and use the prefix “fe80::/10.” It also uses more than one IPv6 address for each machine’s network interface. A media access control (MAC) address-based methodology and duplicate address algorithms ensure IP address uniqueness.
