As per my experience in the industry, participatory mode of leadership has to be followed where the leader should be a role model, must be posses instructive mode than destructive mode.
Lead by examle,caoch and advice ,be assertive and provide all necessary training and support.
Ensure that each team member understands the wider objectives of the business and how each individual's objectives / responsibilities feed into this.
One -on-one discussion/coaching, praising where team members performs well, e.g a path in the back, recommendaton for promotion rather that engagine new staff from outside the organization

By doing you fully understand your employees strengths and capabilities. This participatory style encourages good teamwork and creative collaboration.
