 ospf is a link state protocol based on the shortest path first, named dijsktra algorithm. its used to the advertise the status of the attached links, and in choosing  the best cost path to a destination. ospf provides hierarchical network structure using areas. OSPF is an open standard protocol. If well designed, it is highly scalable. For TE support, OSPF need an extension. OSPFv2 does not support IPv6. OSPFv3 does support both topologies.

ospf is a link state protocol which is based on the dijsktra algorithm. its used to the advertise the status of the attached links, and in choosing  the best cost path to a destination. ospf provides hierarchical network structure using areas. it provides load balancing when there are equal cost links. it has the stub area concept when you need to keep few servers isolated from the backbone. its an open standard protocol and is highly scalable. ospf has traffic engineering extensions and could be used for creating sham links over an mpls cloud.
