Variations is a term we used for any changes in the "for construction plan" or original drawings maybe in any of the electrical, plumbing, structural, architectural designs of the project due to actual site conditions and Projects Sponsor's requirement. It may either have cost implications, i.e. additive or deductive. Extra Work is a term we refer to any additional work not indicated in the drawing or not part of the construction drawings of the project but is required by the Project sponsor due to actual site conditions and now will be part of the as-built drawings of the Project. This will have one implications, additional cost of the project.

Extra work is work that falls outside the scope of work in the original contract between the parties. Simply is totally a "New" additional work in the formof an addition, substitution or omission from the original scope of work.
