Why is RTU used? What tools are needed for it?

Remote Telemetry unit(RTU )used to interfaces objects in the physical world to a distributed control system or SCADA.

7 : Communications

RTU is remote terminal unit or it is also called remote telemetry unit. These RTU is widely used in elecrcity power station. 

As per my knowledge in RTU, i work in Distribution Control Centre. The substation can be controlled through remotely or locally. It is not like PLC becuase PLC's are normally used in plants, where RTU is used for long distance to communicate easily to control centre. Thats why RTU is used wisely in the field of electricty.

RTU needs AI cards, DI cards, communication cards, power slots and if you want to connect field to RTU then you need one cabinet with fibre optic cables.
