The 5S System is a Japanese philosophy that promotes cleanliness and orderliness to achieve maximum productivity and quality.

5S stems from five Japanese words: Seiri (sort), Seiton (set in order), Seiso (shine), Seiketsu (standardize), and Shitsuke (sustain). These words represent a five-step concept to reduce waste, streamline operations, and ultimately increase efficiency and productivity.

5S relies on training, communication, and visual cues such as the use of color coding, labels and signs, and consistent storage locations for tools and supplies.

5S is one of the Lean tool used for the elimination of waste in the process.

Since we are doing"Sort" activity we can differentiate what is needed / unneeded. After " Sort", arrange it according its usage which is " Set in order". Once you pick the needed item and set in its place, next you have to clean which is "Shine". Once you did the first 3S, it is now the job to make a rule which is "Standardization" and finally "Sustain" all 4S in the process.
