Route Tagging is a special feature that can be used in both IGP and EGP to represent and advertise a group of routes with a numeric value throughout the routing domain. This also helps in easily filtering a group of routes from the routers for security purposes or other administrative requirements.

multipoint redistribution of routes will create loops in the network. Route tagging is one the option to prevent such redistribution of already redistributed routes. Simply tag the redistribution routes and then deny them using route-map.
