Communication is sending and receiving information between two or more people. The information conveyed can include facts, ideas, concepts, opinions, beliefs, attitudes, instructions and even emotions.
Social communication is the area of communication that encompasses social interaction, social cognition, and pragmatic functioning.
Social communication definitely paves way for social development, as it is only through exchange of ideas and cooperation that a society can grow and develop. Effective communication is essential to learn, to teach, to make relationships and to maintain them. In the modern world, the importance of communication has surpassed all previously stated levels. Interestingly, the means of communication has outnumbered the means of food production in the world today. The communicative technologies in the world have been increasing not only in number, but also in speed, accuracy and clarity. Even on the bayt.com, among other specialties, we’ve social communication specialty which is playing a pivotal role in bringing people from all over the globe together by sharing their precious views.
Let’s take a closer look and perform an in-depth analysis of how communication can pave way for social development.
1) As a means to transfer of ideas: To transfer ideas from one person to another, communication plays a vital role. Every human-being has some ideas that are unique to his/her own mind. Many of these ideas can be implemented in real life and can turn into major creations too. But to make the transition from just a thought to an implementation, it requires effectual communication.
2) As a means for social interaction: It is very important that we interact with people living in our surroundings. Whenever we talk to someone, we, knowingly or unknowingly, react to his or her questions, actions or comments. This is communication. While corresponding to someone in any way, we are actually communicating. Healthy communication is essential for a healthy society.
3) As a means to educate masses: Education involves a collection of all kinds of communication i.e., audio, video, books and lectures. However, herein the deal is not just to communicate, but to communicate effectively. Inefficient communication can lead to transfer of ambiguous knowledge.
4) As a means to update oneself:In the modern world, nothing is more important than staying up-to-date. It is only through proper channels of communication that people can be updated with current affairs and important events across the globe. Communication is the actual transfer of information through various mediums in such a way that it caters to the needs of people from different strata of life. News can actually stand for as a collection of information from all FOUR directions, i.e. North, East, West and South, that, in turn, is delivered to us through various communication channels.
5) As a means for entertainment: Entertainment today is mostly based on the channels of mass communication, like films and television. Moreover, theatre and other arts also communicate certain ideas to its audience. Internet is another common platform for entertainment, which again is a powerful mode of communication. In short, we can safely conclude that communication and entertainment are entwined in today’s world.

We often treat communication as if it were a discrete act, a matter of performance or lack thereof. Yet meaning cannot be separated from context. A crucial, but often overlooked, function of leadership is creating a culture in which effective communication can flourish.
Based on Heather M. Back 2010, The Effects of Communication Disorders on Social Development ,CMC Senior Theses ,Claremont College. Human beings are social creatures who generally seek to connect to and create relationships with others. The ability to communicate in some form is vital to achieve such connections and relationships. However, individuals are not all born with this ability, nor do they all acquire the necessary components of communication through development. As social creatures, human beings want and need to share experiences and intimacy with other people through communication. In fact, some believe that social communication and movement are the skill classes which contribute the most to regulating physical, social, and cognitive needs in order to pursue a good quality of life (Greenwood, Walker, & Utley, 2002). Similarly, many people believe that every human has the innate capacity to share intentions and feelings through communication, as well as the desire to create relationships (Trevarthen, 2008). Communicative acts include social actions, volitional actions, explanations, evaluations, or emotional responses (Glozman, 1987). Communication can be verbal or nonverbal, but it is always intentional (Glozman, 1987). The gestures, expressions, or utterances people produce are meant to be understood by the receiver and are based on socially or culturally determined norms of communicative style and content. Overall, communication is an irreversible and inevitable part of life (Glozman, 1987). However, for people with disorders, communication can be a difficult or misunderstood part of life if they are not capable of effectively sending and receiving information. This is particularly true for verbal communication. There are varying viewpoints on personality and how it develops, but many historically influential people agree that communication is an essential contributor to personality development. Communication also fills the need for affirmation of the self (Glozman, 1987). Verbal and nonverbal communication allows people to announce their presence, and hopefully evokes a response from another person that leads to interaction. If a person does not communicate effectively, he or she may not receive a response and will feel rejected. The ultimate goal is to feel that one’s presence and personality are affirmed and people will attempt to develop communication strategies to achieve this goal (Glozman, 1987). It is understandable that inadequate communication can have detrimental effects on personality development. Poor communication development can have a negative impact on one’s adaptation to social environments, education and career opportunities, and overall personal success in any activity (Glozman, 1987).
Here are 10 ways I see social communication(media) transforming the social development in our life by connections and technology:
Before we could reach out to anyone on the planet, did we ever see anything as amazing as the projects and successes associated with challenged paradigms in the world? With collective marketplaces that match previously disconnected buyers and sellers, fans of every color, ‘it takes a village‘ projects like Open Source, and collective effort never before seen in the world. We are challenging the status quo, building things, creating things, connecting with each other, self-organizing around important issues, and yes, changing the world little bit by little bit.
We pay attention to the small details of people’s lives, delight over their family photos, and share at the level of family with a whole bunch of people. We’re supported when we need to be. We talk about issues and conundrums and joys. People are connecting and being exposed to both comfortable and diverse perspectives.
That will serve us well.
We support people and things we like, on sites like Digg and Reddit
We learn from each other. You can find everything from make-up tips to channeled extraterrestrial messages on YouTube. And if you have ever doubted that kids are learning things these days, check out this very interesting exchange between a student and his English teacher.
We share our knowledge, wisdom and experiences. Quora is a place where you can ask any question in the world, and expect a reasonable answer.
We share our creative ideas and inspirations. Pinterest has redefined the digital portfolio/catalog.
We still have a healthy respect for the unique and the handmade. Etsy has enabled many a domestic entrepreneur and infused our culture with an amazing richness of creativity.
We still haunt Twitter waiting for a cause or idea to support. Retweets are our weapon in an effort to expose information and transform thinking. It’s still an incredibly powerful tool, as its signal can not be easily stopped (following censorship laws or not). ‘Can’t stop the signal!’
People in the social media space are finally talking more about authenticity, which might help minimize some of the junkier parts of our lovely information city.
We acknowledge that everyone has something to contribute, as long as you’re nice about it.
The Power to Reach AnyoneBut more importantly, here’s how the Internet has changed us: we have been given power to reach anyone, tools to do it with, and reasons to think we might effect change with a vote, e-mail or blog post. Changing people’s minds and seeing consciousness grow is one of the delights of information mavens.
Relishing in diverse and divergent thinking is another
We are having conversations in unparalleled ways with unparalleled access to the people and forces who can help create change. We are also increasingly choosing the information we choose to expose ourselves to, and that’s a very good thing.
I agree with experts answers, thanks for the invitation. .
Social communication starts between husband and wife. Here it is developed or destroyed. A couple refused to talk to each other after a bout of quarrels. But the husband needed to wake up early to attend an important meeting the next day. So he wrote on a piece of paper, ‘Please wake me up at 6am tomorrow,’ and kept it beside his wife’s pillow. His wife read it and went to sleep. He woke up very late the next morning and got very angry. He looked ferociously at his wife, but she calmly pointed towards his pillow. Under his pillow he found a note which was written on it, ‘Please wake up, it is 6 o’ clock now.’
Security comes from relationships, not achievements and rights. The person who is driven to win or to be right or to be first is insecure. Insecure people are driven to perform to become first or right. A secured person is a person who is comfortable with self and others. This is applicable starting from husband – wife to every relationship. This infected everywhere and there after we start all again building better communication to create awareness for social development. We have to nip at the bud of social damage starts growing.
