A bin card, as the name suggests is a card kept with the stock item in the place where the stock is held. Since many small stock items were (and still are) held in "bins" (e.g. screws, nuts, bolts, etc) the card would be kept inside the bin with the items.
This made it easy to update movements in and out, as the card would be updated on the spot.
A bin card has five core columns: namely Date/Time; Amount/Quantity Outward, Amount/Quantity Inward, Closing Balance; Signature/initial and an optional column for comments.
The bin card header contains the stock code and stock description plus the opening balance and opening date.
