Undertanding the testing Eco System s the key to proceed with the need of the tool. For  properitery tools , chanes are to look for trial version , promotional webinars or conferences and joining the community to get trained.

Alternatively understading of the tools base technology and history can also help usget information on how capable the tool could be.

While Trial version exploration of that tool, and online independent forums & tutorials support is also a possibility to get started.

Official support like demo, beginners tutorial and stuff like that for the paid tool is one option. While Trial version exploration of that tool, and online independent forums & tutorials support is also a possibility to get started.

In my opinion, first get the demo of the tool from its website, about it works. (Generally paid tools do have their working demos). Get help files (.pdf/.chm) from demo version of tool. It helps a lot in understanding the tools functions and operations.

Getting hands-on, Self study is best which can help you in better understanding of tools.

I have worked on same strategy for QTP, LR. It worked for me.

Any supplier whom you have targetted is more than happy to provide technical training relevant to desired product.
