Health and safety measures with an organization is a series of process that needs to mandatory implemented this includes Eliminate Reduce Isolate Control Personal Protective Equipment Discipline. The hierarchy of control is used to remove or reduce hazards and risks and should be used during a risk assessment. The idea is that you start by choosing methods from the top of the list and work your way down if required.

In practical terms, a risk assessment is a thorough look at your workplace to identify those things, situations, processes, etc that may cause harm, particularly to people. After identification is made, you evaluate how likely and severe the risk is, and then decide what measures should be in place to effectively prevent or control the harm from happening.

This is anything really that you put in place to protect against workplace hazards.

Controls can be:

Software - such as systems of work, rules, policy.

Hardware - physical protection against hazards like guards, sound isolation, barriers.

PPE - personal protection equipment like hard hats, hi visibility vests.

As a PM, it is the primie responsobiluty to ensure that the team members have taken all safety measures as per the company guidelines and instruction and all activities needs to be logged and recorded. There should be constand education and awareness programs for the staff about the safety and health control within an organization.

Apart from bookworm defintion like Engineering Control,Isolation,Substitution,Training etc.. ,focus first Why Risk being populated ? Unsafe Acts or Conditions ?

and let us move towards Risk Control measures.

Health and Safety Risk controling in an Organization primarly have two parts-

  • Management's Approach
  • Downline Intitiative.

If management is having punitive culture instead of appreciative, chances of higher risk but in hidden form. But, if a healthy and appreciative culture exist, mostly risks prevented before we start to think about control measures.

1. MANAGEMENT CONTROL- An appreciative management who understand HSE as a part of bussiness Profit(That is our Job to make them think in that way) not only regulatory requirement.

2. WORKPLACE CONTROL- Control Like #Engineering #Elimniation # Substitution # Training & # Adminstrative are required. PPE is considered as a last line control.

3. BEHAVIOURAL BASED RISK CONROL- Modifying behaviour of manpower directly afect Risk arises due to behaviour (Delibrate Unsafe Acts) , BBS based trainings, Personality development and Human behaviour Engineering are good tools to improve this hidden part.

Introducing ERP in HSE to control risk is a good option which could track  real time Risks, different matrix could be develop in order to Control the risks upto As Low as Reasonably Practicable Level.
