There are Many definitions available for ADS, And here i have provided answer by considering it as Active Directory Service.Active Directory Services consist of multiple directory services. The best known is Active Directory Domain Services. Commonly abbreviated as ADDS or simply ADThe physical component of Active directory contain all the physical subnet present  in our network like domain controllers and replication between domain controllers.      The logical structures of active directory include forest, domains, tree, OUs and global catalogueAnother definition for ADS :An alternate data stream (ADS) is a feature of Windows New Technology File System (NTFS) that contains metadata for locating a specific file by author or title. ADS is supported by all versions of Windows beginning with Windows NT through the current version, Windows 7

The physical component of Active directory contain all the physical subnet present in your network like domain contollers and replication between domain contollers. The logical structure of active directory include forest, domains, tree, OUs and global catalogs.Domain : a group of computer and other resources that are part of a windows server2003 network and share a common directory database.Global catalog : Global catalog used to catch information about all object in a forest , the global catalog enables users and applications to find object in an active directory domain tree if the user or application knows one or more attributes of the target object.Tree : Tree as is collection of Active directory Domain, that means the trust relationship can be used by all other domain in the forest as a means to access the domain.Organization Unit - Organization Unit is a Active directory container into which object can be grouped for per mission management.Forest : Active directory forest as due to represents the external boundary of the directory service.These are two types of active directory forest :-I) Single Forest2) Multiple forest

ADDS was introduced in windows server 2000 ADDS Physical components are Domain Controller and Sites ADDS Logical components are Forest, Tree, Domain Controller, OU and Global catalog.

Physical components :  sites and domain controllers .  ADS Physical components helps us to maage the communication between the servers  with the respect of directroy.

Logical components : trees ,domain forests , Organizational unit , Global cate logs . There is no corelation between physical and logical components.
