I would say there is no one way of getting your team to work. Every person has his own strengths n areas of improvements. Every person also performs in a different way under pressure or otherwise. Hence a leader cannot stick to one style of leading. For me its usually the question I ask myself "Whats the right thing to do?" Also how does it affect not only the organisation but also the people. Hence i would not select just one but would say that a leader shud have the skills of analysing the tasks, the time in hand n the ability of each person he has in his team. And then decide what approach he or she would take.

Thanks

It is mix of them

#Legatimate Power ,# Reward Power, # Expert Power, # Information Power , #Referent Power , depending on situation itself.

But not (Coercive Power ) at least as for me, since my power and authority come from inspiration and communication not from the compulsion side

I would choose referent power.Simply because as a leader you want to earn the right and respect to lead.

I have summarised examples for each power type.

1.Legitimate Power -  power you derive from your formal position or office held in the organization's hierarchy of authority. For example, the president of a corporation has certain powers because of the office he holds in the corporation.

2.Reward Power - the power of a manager to give some type of reward to an employee as a means to influence the employee to act. Rewards can be tangible or intangible.

3.Coercive Power - is the ability to influence someone's decision making by taking something away as punishment or threatening punishment if the person does not follow instructions. It

4.Expert Power - based upon employees' perception that a manager or some other member of an organization has a high level of knowledge or a specialized set of skills that other employees or members of the organization do not possess.

5.Information Power -  doesn't last. Give away a piece of information and you give your power away.

6.Referent Power - refers to the ability of a leader to influence a follower because of the follower's loyalty, respect, friendship, admiration, affection, or a desire to gain approval.

Coercive power doesnt prove successful. It creates lack of motivation and lack of trust between leader and subordinate. Legitimate power seems more reasonables
