Close protection is the protection of VIPs or valuable comodities such as jewelery etc and mostly involves constant movement and mobility.

Security guarding is the protection of facilities or non mobile and movable comodities.

in my point of view; i believe both are skilled and share the same amount of risk, but the skill varies depending on the job requirements.

Close protection is usually a highly skilled job involving protection of a person.  (e.g. a politician)

Security guard is normally a lower skilled job involving protection of a place. (e.g. a bank branch)
