Plumbing load calculation shall be divided as 2 services .A) Water demand  B) Drainage load

A) Water demand shall be calculated taking number of  occupants in peak and number of fixtures installed or designed in a building. This shall include demands for domestic, potable ,fire fighting and irrigation services requirements.

Fixtures flow rate in LPS  x total hours of usage / frequency usage.also height of the building shall be crucial in case of pressure drops and inline flush or other quick closing valves in the system.

B) Drainage load shall be based on total wet area and floor drains, closet, bidet, bath tub, wash basins, kitchen sink, janitor sinks, dish washers and rainwater outlets. The distribution sizing and stack configurations also shall determine the sizing of pipelines. The usage of pumps, interceptors, sand traps shall also be vital in design of pipe material and classes.

Fire fighting design shall be based on relevant NFPA codes and hazard class of the building. The basic pump rating shall call for continuose running of system for 1/2 hr keeping 2 fire hydrants and fire hose reel system functional at rated pressures.Sprinkler system shall be designed based on the area of protection.Speciality systems like Novec,FM200,Foam deluge,Non pyrotic aerosol  based fire suppresion shall be designed to volume and area of room to be protected or occupancy types.usually generator rooms ,fuel rooms shall be protected with foam deluge fire suppression system.
