“PLC” stands for “programmable logic controller.” PLCs are digital computers. They are used mainly for automating the electromechanical processes, for example, assembly lines in factories, light fixtures, amusement rides, etc. They are specially designed for output arrangements and multiple inputs. They have electrical noise immunity, vibration and impact resistance, varied temperature ranges, etc.

Some of the functions of PLCs are; process control, relay control, motion control, networking, etc. They have started matching the desktop computers in storing, processing, communicating, and handling data.

PLC is basically for controlling a plant or machine. The main advantage of PLC is that we can minimize the electrical circuits and the reliability and flexibility of PLC. Every PLC manufacturers have their on programmming software for working with PLC. Even if the softwares are different the logic and way of programming will be almost same for all PLC.

SCADA is for monitoring a plant or machine. Engineers know technically about the plant and they can easily understand what is the current status of the plant. But an operator may not know that much technically. So we use SCADA there. In SCADA screen we create a visual representation of the plant in such a way that a person not from technical background can also understand the current status. SCADA is also used for selecting the mode of operation, Entering some values etc.
