the engineering fields like Civl engineering, mechanical engineering, architecture Engineering, CRD (chemical reactor designing) engineering, aeronautical engineering are the jobs which needs you to be a professional in AutoCAD.
As engineerign design requires hands-on experience in actual design, and since AutoCad is the most widely used drafting software, i'd say any engineering job requires at least basic knowledge in AutoCad.
it is best software till date for 2D drawings......... there are other software like creo (proengineer), solid works etc which are better for 3D drawings then autocad..... but for 2D drawings autocad is best.....
im not more work in autocad more on supervising and some checking of design but i will answer that autocad it is the fast ways and short cut how to draw and also how to give all datas needed l
AutoCAD is replacement of Pencil, paper and drawing board..So any engineering drawing once done on drawing board can be draft on AutoCAD.By the way AutoCAD is not engineering tool, it's a drafting tool, used in most of the industries, but these days few others softwares are replacing software.
Some Particular Design Jobs like Architectural, interier deign are required professional in autocad but other engineering design jobs like Structural Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical etc. needs autocad skills to medium level but not professional in autocad. Draftsmen are hired to do drafting jobs. Engineers are decision maker and guide draftsmen.
