The job of a Retail manager is that of a general manager at the core.
He has to deal with not only the profit making, which is at the centre of everything, but he has to take care of all the aspects of Ratail operations as well which include managing the store, infrastructure, manpower, rostering, provide excellent customer service (which is the key to generate from revenue), ensure repeat walkin through various on ground activities , ensure basics are there at the Retail store at all times. Hence a responsible retail manager is one who can juggle and multi taks thru all these and still give a steady growth and contributes in the organization growth
First you need to know who are you dealing with, what kind of subordinates / staffs do you have? Personal approach is always a good subject to start with - make them respect you. First it is a compulsory to trained your staff: for instance how to interact with customers, how to greet customers, inform the discipline issues, how to manage the store , lighting, visual merchandising, stocks in hand, encourage your sales staff to generate sales by creating sales program. You need to be creative to influence the customer coming to your store. Your store need sufficient lighting and one thing that I have experienced is always keep your store doors opened all the time. As a retail manager I created an in store promotions - make good cooperation with Banks / Social Media through Merchants Tie Up. Create buzz by inviting customer to your store through Customer Loyalty Program, if possible make an event in the store to create an entertainment, basic idea is how we want customer to be comfortable. I maintain good relationship with my customer, I created database , invited them, and greet them on their Birthday... Retail Manager is not always internal operational issues, but how we manage the Continuance of Business Process.
