Protective coating of primer should be applied to prevent scaling and rusting of steel and steel should be placed above ground level by at least 150 mm if it will be stored for a long time.

  • Store bars of different classes, sizes and lengths separately to facilitate issues in such sizes and lengths so as to minimize wastage in cutting from standard lengths.
  • Paint the ends of bars of each class in distinct separate colors.
  • Coat steel reinforcement with cement wash before stacking to prevent scaling and rusting.
  • If reinforcement bars have to be stored for a long period, then stack it above ground level by at least 150 mm.

1. Off the ground on suitable materials.

2. Avoid contacting with or beneath carbon steel rebar or other ferrous materials.

3. Should be put on the top if the contacting with ferrous material is unavoidable when shipping.

4. Should be covered with polyethylene sheet or other appropriate material if the rebars are kept in an opened area.

I agree with the experts, in addition to that, the steel rebars should be covered with plastic cover or tarpaulins to avoid sand, soil or even rainwater penetrating on it.
