Depending on the type, drilling fluid can be recycled back after the contaminants are separated.  Drilling cuttings can be separated out by a centrifuge.  The cuttings can also be recycled as filler or aggregate material.  Hydrocarbon contaminant can be separated out by thermal disorption.

Together with recycling you should also consider reuse of otherwise wasted mud by utilizing pipe wiper and recovery of spilled mud by vacuuming.  Also to consider is reduction of mud use by applying better drilling methods.

However, it depends on technical availability and applicable regulations.
