Can someone with theoretical knowledge about Project Management also succeed in obtaining a PMP certification or not? Besides, one should start with preparations for APMP certification or PMP certification directly?
I think it is very necessary because Practical Experience will support you to feel and get the meanings of manpower, productivity , communication skills and all the components for Successful Project Management, So when you have a Good Practical Experience you will understand the concepts of Project management better than studying it theoriticaly, So as a result Prctical Experience will simplifies Obtaining PMP Certification.
Well Abdul Rehman, it really depends on where, with whom and how you worked in the project management. I've seen a lot of project managers who doesn't have a single clue about the theories behind PMP or doesn't know the terms used, basically because they are much older than when the PMP certification has started or simply because they have a good field background and got promoted to PMs. On the other hand some projects, companies or even countries follow the processes of PMP in which you find yourself learning about project management as you work and could find it much easier to take the test. Noting that the practical is always different from the theory so never try to go to the test without studying.
Before taking up exam, it was a hype in my mind, but when i studied it seem like every day situation which rise during the project tenure from initiation to completion, PMP study teaches you the techniques for Project and program managment but practical experience make you adapt them in your work culture. hence i will vote for having a practical experience will be better, but if you are talking about PMI chapter, than yes it is compulsary as some time PMI do ref check
It's definitely needed. You need to relate real world scenarios to the theories you study.
Besides, PMI forces you to list your project management experience when applying for the PMP.
practical experience it might evident some skills that required for PMP Certificate but its not obligatory to obtain pmp certification .
Of course, i am totally agree with engineer Moayad Saleh Mustafa Ramadan.
As per PMI, minimum practical experience is must to fulfill the criteria.
In my opinion it’s very important that piratical experience is must in project management. Study taught you only theory but practical clear you to understand.
Definitely necessary and important in my own opinion. Parctical experience is always needed, in fact when students are taught in schools and universities, they will always receive a practical view about the topic. And the same thing here, you need to apply practical work in order to fully understand and be capable to implement the work and duties in real life.
I believe it is necessary to have enough experience because to obtain certification your knowledge will be tested and only your experiences can prove how much you have learned that can be certified by the authority.
