Is there really a difference between Project Management and Babysitting?

You spend the majority of your time herding the crowd, assigning tasks, checking in on their progress and how you can assist, micro managing that one person who's distracted and dragging everyone down, and pulling them apart when they go at each others' throats..

Aside from the age of the related parties, is there really any difference?!

Staff mentoring is different from babysitting.  To mentor a staff member to reach their full potential they need extra attention;  not just from management but also from their project team.  The weakest link in a project is usually the manager because they are unable to adapt to the needs of their employees.  Be creative and positive, not derogatory and frustrated.  People learn in different was and that is a manager's job to assess.
