How important is your appearance as compared to your actual abilities and skills?

This is a tricky question. There is a saying -" First impression is the best impression". To make your first impression easy, your appearance contributes significant role. Appearance makes other party to be open for discussion, this gives easy chance for us to showcase our skills and abilities. I mean to say- skills and abilities are core strength of a person to gain respect and position, where as appearance is a good enabler to make it happen in faster mode with confidence.

Equal percentage of importance, 50%-50%. Because appearance is the tool which makes your skills and abilities float over others and pushes confidently. 

The term "appearance" has more than one meaning. If appearance is meant as being neat, clean and professionally dressed then it is equal in importance to ones abilities and skills. As an employee you represent your company and the perception of a client as to the company image can rely to a large part on the appearance of employees. You need to look professional and act capable. If you look professional to a client it might prompt them to take a closer look at what your company can do for them.  That said, you can look the part but if you don't have the abilities and skills to back up that professional image then a customer gained can easily be lost. Employment counselors have repeatedly said to dress for the job you want. If you want to be a manager dress like a manager.  They have also said that an employee should always dress to match one level above their job level. When it is time for promotions an employee that does this has a psychological advantage to get the higher level job because they already look the part. These examples show that clearly appearance plays a important role; however, not any more important than ability and skill.  Another meaning of the term "appearance" is attractiveness. If you are asking about this meaning then the answer may be a little different. Just being attractive has little importance. There is a saying that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" meaning everyone has a difference idea of what is attractive. Being attractive will not get you the job unless you have the abilities and skills needed because in the end an employee needs to perform to meet the goals of the company and make the clients happy.

We never give important  appearance. Because any will not be completed by appearance its only completed by abilities and skills. That' all.

We are living in a "superficial" world, looks like "appearence" is everything, but is not, is a part of the person, an important part, but not always will solve the problems, but skills and abilities will solve-it.

Appearance is very important in all areas, management, selling, reception, lecturing and teaching ...It is who determines one's personality.

if you are pertaining to physical attributes that has to do with genetics, I would say very less. However, there are some jobs that admittedly requires you look pleasant as part of the task. Now people don't necessarily judge people through appearance, but by personality. You can look great but can't do your job is negative which is the same with being great at your job but has a negative personality. It is good to always be perceived great and actually do great.

Appearance is one of the criteria. So that you will not be misjudge from a recruiter.

My appearance would be important because it is an essential need in this life to be clean , well dressed and organaised , as my appearance looks good as the first impression is positive especially in the business life where all people talks about "Business Keywords" , but if we want to compare appearance to abilities and skills i think every detail in this life has it's own aim , sometimes the appearance could be more usefull than abilities and skills and viceversa . It depends what we need to do to know which weapon we must use .
