Raft Foundation and pile foundation
According to soil bearing capacity but if the overturnning moment due to seismic is high, that may require raft foundation or using piles (that happened for building with core wall(s) and to safe bearing capacity for footing below core wall (even after increasing the allowable bearing capacity due to compination with seismic), that may require raft foundation for whole building or make piled foundation depend on bearing capacity).
Raft Foundation is used in seismic prone areas
Raft or Pile foundation is used to construct in seismic prone areas.
In case of Seismic, if there is solidification of the soiland SBC is low then we have to go for the Pile Foundation
Raft Foundation and continous foundation is used for seismic prone areas.
For seismic prone areas pile foundation would be sufficient based on SBC of the soil.
Raft Foundation And Combined footings
The kind of foundation used in seismic prone areas can be determined by Seismic Zone, Total load, Soil Classification, Type of structure and SBC.
It is recognized that analysis and design of foundations involve the interplay of a wide variety of related disciplines such as seismology, geology, soil/rock dynamics and applied mechanics.
Pile Foundation is mostly prefered.
Therefore, foundation engineers need to be well aware of the advances and technical developments in these fields, or to be properly advised in these matters in order to accomplish cost-efficient and safe designs foundations.
