One neat thing about Visio is hat you can get it to automatically draw digrams fromn a text file, which you can admittedly do with AutoCAD, but it also has line objects called Connectors that can be "glued" to stick to the objects no matter where you move them. It rocks for logical diagrams showing how things are connected. As far as drawing floorplans and stuff, Visio Chokes on large DWG's so the import feature is rather bunk. I have had several 100-700kB simple CAD drawings that took 45 minutes to import and once imported, the visio doc would crash frequently.
Visio is mainly for simple line diagrams like flowcharts, circuit diagrams, organisational hierarchies and it's very good at it. If that's all you need to produce, use Visio. AutoCAD is a CAD programme (as you know). It's like comparing Notepad to Word.
I agree with Mr. Mohamed Rabie....he answer perfect.
Compare the product features of PlantEngineer, the P&ID software based on Microsoft’s Visio with CAD add-ons and learn more about the benefits of Visio based solutions. Traditional CAD software solutions are often inflexible and cost-consuming. PlantEngineer is an integrated and easy to use software based on Visio with features for the design and documentation of process plants. Object orientated process flow diagrams and additional functions such as automatic reports Microsoft Excel or Word, the definition and visualization of operation states and the integrated consistency check increase the user benefits significantly. Learn more about the advantages of Visio add-ons for engineers and learn how easy it is to improve and simplify the entire engineering and documentation process.

Ms Visio or Auto CAD is ARCHITECTURER Softwear
Diffrence is Ms Visio only wokr for 2D Work or AutoCAD is fully optional softwear to make drwaing or design Visio is mainly for simple line diagrams like flowcharts, circuit diagrams, organisational hierarchies and it's very good at it. I havn't'used Auto cad but in Visio we can prepare a Data driven diagram,we can have the data report run in the background. In auto cad i believe we cannot run the data in the background.
In Visio we can add predefined stencils (shape) as well as add new data driven stencils as per our requirement.
Visio can capture real layout from ground to paper with maximum accuracy (upto 100%). Very useful for Oil and gas well owners. It helps to make accurate Production measurement drawings specially for maintaining and reporting the production to their regulatory boards.
I think two different applications, one is for diagramming & the other is for drafting & designing.
But Autocad is very popular worldwide.i prefer Autocad..
