AutoCad Draftsman and AutoCad Drafter are same by profession and function.
An autocad drafter, draughtsman are used in British English whereas draftsman, drafting technician are used in American English & Canadian English for a person who makes detailed technical drawings or plans for machinery, buildings, electronics, infrastructure etc using AutoCad software.
The draftman is the problem solver who works with the client to create the concept and modifies into fruition. His costly educational background is in engineering. His goal is to create a solution for his client. He hands the sketches or diagrams to a draftsman to put the ideas onto paper or puter. The draftsman's goal is to transform the notes and digrams into a drawing so the concept can be neatly communicated to others who may not necessarily be in the electrical field. His educational background is in mechanical drawing or drafting. Many draftsmen can work in several different fields like mechanical, structural, and electrical. man from a team who has knowledge about autocad.

In my opion it is the same thing...just a veriation of the deffinition, however specific to AutoCAD ...
where as a Mechanical Drafter/civil/industrial... (Draftsperson/man) is usually skilled in more than one CAD program and can utilize a Drafting board (manual drafting);
You will find us in Project Management assisting Engineers in general with different tasks, make our own designs, work independently.
A Draftsman is a person employed in making mechanical drawings as of machines, structure, etc. a person who draws sketches, plans, or designs.
A Drafter is a person who uses software to convert the designs of engineers and architects into technical drawings and plans.
