In general, Some new physics theories have direct industrial effects while others have indirect effects. For example, special relativity is necessary for a GPS system to work accurately, while string and M theories still far away from a direct impact on industry, since they still need much developement and verification, but new technologies derived from experiments conceived to verify such theories have huge impact on industry, a huge developement of internet and superconductors in particle accelerators are clear examples.
I would like to notice that recently, serious researches are conducted in the area of quantum computing which make direct use of quantum mechanical phenomena.
