It is simply working with less features. The MVP concept is a cost-efficient concept; it allows you to test, gauge and use minimal features available in a product or service and develop henceforth. Its efficiency lies where the product already has features you can build or develop upon, hence the name minimum viable product.

A Minimum Viable Product falls in between a Proof of Concept and full fledge Product.

What it should do?

It needs to address the basic customer pain points the Product looks to address. It can introduce the back-bone To-Be Business Processes. It needs to be usable by at least one target user persona.

What you should not do?

You should not get carried away against the objective of an MVP - that is, to provide a minimalistic experience of the Product to target users and gather feedback to improve the MVP into a user friendly and marketable product.
