Salary Negotiation is very critical on both Company or Candidate.  Company may loss a potential candidate or hire a candidate on a wrong salary range.

As a company having a well structured and updated  Salary Structure will be a big help.  This will assure that you are paying as per the latest market rate and encouraging highly caliber candidates joining your Organization.

Candidate must know his market value based on his learned skills and gained qualifications.  He should know the paying capacity of the company whom he is negotiating.  Mistakes comes in when you over valued or under valued yourself.

Tip is to be real.  Know the market situation,  your need and your right value.

The biggest mistake would be to open your mouth first (without knowing the job price/ salary range for a position as per market standards and company pay band)!

I think it should be telling the figures by yourself instead of letting your employer to make it raise or spell it out
