How to efficaciously learn a new vocabulary that sticks in your memory for a long time & becomes an integral part of your overall English Mastery?

The best way to go about learning a new English Word is to treat the process of learning it as a Story with an exciting & titillating Cliff Hanger , & , with you as the Superstar with his or her Lead Role . Use this soon-to-be learned & memorized English Terminology to visualize your self in a situation that revolves around it , & , you're trying to find your way around , & , ascertain & pinpoint the inns & outs of such disposition , by simply employing & applying this word to your self & to every one who's involved & enmeshed in this somewhat imaginary position . In other words , try to identify your self with , relate to & chime with such certain word in a manner that'd put your self in a angled arrangement that'd make you the Spoken-To & Addressed relevant Person in relation to this word . This way , you'd be able to Connect the Word with a certain brain-visualized & very much soon-to-be memorized picture ( The Supposed Story & It's Climax ) . ( & That's the way it goes ) .

First, upon learning the the term, you need to find the term usage examples. This is the1st and most important activity to do. The examples will materialize the concept in your mind. Second, you try to put3-4 examples of usages, from your own creation.

Doing the above, and using the term in every day conversation (when & Where suitable) will transform the term from short-term memory into the long-term memory.

Learning new words is just like knowing new people. First you have to know them well. Then you try to strengthen your relationship with them by getting together more often. So, you have to know the word first. This means that you have to know how to spell the word, how to pronounce it correctly, what part(s) of speech it belongs to, its meaning(s), and most importantly its collocations and usage. Then start practicing the word in different contexts and situations. Listen to and imitate how native speakers say it and use it in everyday situations.

In context, always. Make the student use it in an everyday meaningful situation/discussion.

It is like me learning Arabic :) I want to go shopping. I learn a couple of key expressions/words. I use them while I do my shopping. Next time, I will remember those expressions/words from before, and I do.

For higher levels, I use any kind of media/realia, videos, internet, magazines - anything interesting and related to their reality.

Later, make them use the vocabulary in sentences/paragraphs.

Lists are not effective!

Learning the meaning of a new word and remembering it for long is a tedious job. First, learn the meaning and make as many sentences as possible using that word. Write the word, its meaning and sentences using that word in a note-book. Go on adding such words to the note-book. Whenever you find free time, review them. Thus, you can know the meaning and usage of a word on a long-term basis.

I guess a word a day by opening a dictionary page n using it in the course of the day in speaking or writing is a good way of cementing it in the brain. I used to do it. I even remember the first word i used was "paradigm". I felt the need to enhance my vocabulary, hence.

I used to use a book` Longman` activator , it was very beneficial .It brings the synonyms as one set and puts each one in a context and demonstrates any slight differences in usage.
