DX  is direct expansion system  is consist of many types :

1- DX package unit : in this type the all component of ac unit is compacted together evaporator and condenser and compressor and drier /filter /control.

2- DX split system :in this type the condenser and compressor  is separated and locate in out door while evaporator and its fan locate in indoor conditioned space [ dx split include one out door unit and one indoor evaporator unit]

VRF variable refrigerant flow

1-  is consist of one condenser and compressor  with more than one evaporator and indoor units

2-  VRF piping network including distributers  and controls for refrigerant flow

3-  VRF  can serve far indoor up to 200 ft distance between indoor and out door

4- VRF compressor is more powerful

5- VRF over all power consumption is less

DX is direct expansion unit .which is the traditional indoor with out door unit when expansion of refrigerant(fixed volume) happens in evaporator and cools the air passing around it. VRF is a variable flow refrigerant unit (i.e the flow differs depending on load) this unit has sophisticated control system with out door unit( having one or more compressors) with one or more indoor units and can adjust its load(flow of refrigerant is variable) depending on outside air temperature and number of indoor units required to run AND the set temparature (the required indoor temperature).

DX is Direct expansion where expanded coolant passes thru outside fin coil which cools the water int he system, while VRF is Variable refrigerant flow, meaning, during high temperature demand, the coolant flow will increase and decrease omn low temperature demant.

DX is direct expansion system where as vrf is variable frequency drive system in an air conditioning flow of air in the room .
