To be precise, Literary works written and published in Great Britain and British colonies are referred by the term English literature while American literature refers to literary works written and published in America.English literature is written in British English while American literature is written in American English.English literature mainly reflects the English culture, English mannerisms while American literature mirrors American culture, its history, and revolutionary concepts such as relationships with the church, the state, supernatural elements that emerged in the country. E.g. Massachusetts battle. English literature is much older than the American Literature. American literature is often known as a much more realistic in portraying characters while English literature is known for its wit and portrayal of the theme in plots and characterization.English Literature and American literature are two different notions although American literature was once part of the English literature.

British litreature is genuine, it covers classical English, traditions, history, folklore. Meaning history is ancient:it is castles, caves, and being at large. Trains, music, and a love endless story. The language is the litreature language.

But for American litreature it is new formed English expressions and  words are indeed-different, due to mixed culture, since being new land it rarely covers history, on other opinion American litreature interesting hence stories of immigrants and mixed nationalities and spices attracts readers. American litreature It is modern, but British is more rooted.

Some of the main differences between British and American literature (being very precise) are;

1. The British literature is not only confined within the European land but also encompasses ideas, philosophies, culture, adventure and explorations of the English people during the period of colonization. On the other hand, the American literature orginated in the American land within limited demarcation and evolved while American land was colonized by the British.

2. They are distinct because of the feature one that of a Colonizer and the other of a colonized. One with long-past history of heroism and while other born amidst struggle for setting up a new society free from English domination and legacy.

3. Upon the above mentioned context, the two literature are quite different. The English literature is strictly fashioned, imaginative and witty. The American literature more modern, revolutionary, innovative and above all realistic in nature.
