How do you manage the situation where your subordinate doesn't follow your orders?

Let say you are managing a team with two or three members and you are reporting to your superior. Your subordinate is not willing to take up your orders and he or she does what she wants or follows somebody else. How do you bring them to coordinate with you? is it by force? i mean by complaining or is it by any other ways? (consider this as a general hierarchical organization)

Consider patience, tolerance and compassion. Never forget that behavior generates behavior. Do not think outside the box, think that there is no box. But also consider your own lack of leadership, our subordinates are largely a projection of ourselves, although they may have intentionally wrongful, their attitude may be a reflection of your attitude. The best definition of insanity I know is to continue to do the same and expecting different results. Finally, never underestimate the potential of the Human species, Human beings are capable incredible achievements even when less expected, believe in their potential. Every business is made of people, the main drive in every business are the people. There´s a huge difference between chief and a leader. One gives orders the other inspires people.
