When you get an email to accept online that you had a meeting with your manager about PMS rating and you know such a meeting did not take place?

  • What do you do in this situation. I have heard about degree feedback process as the best PMS rating process where you get feedback about your annual rating (and also quarterly ratings that form a part of annual ratings) from all around. From your superiors, your peers , your co workers, your subordinates and even your customers.
  • But in your situation there is no discussion at all.
  • But your manager wants you to acknowledge that there was a discussion and  wants you to acknowledge it on line so that his responsibility ends.
  • And when you request for a meeting he says he does not have the time and gives you a sheepish smile.
  • Is this the best HR practice to cut time wastage.
  • Does every employee good or bad deserve a1 to1 about his annual rating or is this a thing of the past, a wastage of time for managers who have better things to do . May be a pareto or6 sigma  analysis to justify his next promotion.

Mr. Ganguly - it's unfortunate to note the case in question. The best practice these days definitely is a customized version of 360 degree performance review. However, your case suggests that the manager has taken the Performance Review as just another operational activity to complete and intends you to treat it in the same way. You shouldn't! It is a documented evidence of what you did the last whole year / quarter and hence, is very important to you. If the review has already been conducted by him and it comes for you to 'Sign-off' - take a minute to read through his ratings. In the comments section you must highlight in subtle words that it would have been better if the review was conducted 1:1. However, you accept it or do not accept it. Conclude with a justification and sign-off.
