Any psychometric test is only valid if performed by a trained pscyhologist under controlled conditions. If it takes place at the prospective employer's premises, for example (even with correct conditions) it's probably worthless. Needless to say, the people assessing the result of the test (hiring manager and/or HR) must also have undergone adequate training.
In other words doing it right is expensive, and it's still only one tool in the hiring process. Doing it wrong is somewhere in the useless / dangerous / illegal range, and it certainly unethical.
