The best way to develop a skill is training and a good coach will identify that need in the early stages of a coaching relationship. The training is more directive and requires a lot more guidance than coaching. Once the newly acquired skill is explained and accurately demonstrated several times in real work situations, without the support of a trainer or a colleague, the employee now reaches the competence level. Coaching can follow its course from this point onward.
