In today's day , digital marketing approach is more vast and personalized to the customers needs and reach and low cost. technology has created the world very small . the concept of door to door is no longer valid and doable.
Although this is a very traditional approach to marketing a product, it can be very effective if done the right way. What is the right way? In my opinion cold calling should be done through a consultative approach, showing expertise in the field and providing relevant data and market research. Simply put, if you have conviction in what you're selling and genuine care for the purchaser then you can succeed through cold calls and D2D models. This model works best for small and medium size businesses and is less effective with mid to large market enterprises.
There is no single way or trick in sales to sell your products or services, we need to do our ground work, research the client, research the market and then act.
The most easiest way to sell anything is ask questions to your clients, find out their likes , their dislikes. If they have budget their opinion on your product and what they think will make them buy it.
Mastering people arround you will make you a good sales person.
I will still do cold calls and door to door sales if needed.
Yes , the cold calling is the direct approach to the customer which helps in educating the customer about the product or service.
Both are good.......but the thing is how to present that :-)
Yes I do, There is a personal touch to it and many people depending on their cultures like that.
If you're training a newbie, then yes its a good tool to help them learn the ropes and orient them towards the market for a specific product and/or services. However, the approach is quite outdated and should never be adopted or encouraged as a matter of policy. Most companies are already very wary of the "door to door" salesman approach and it only shows that the organization is myopic if that is considered as the sole mechanism for generating leads.
A more effective approach is to break down the whole sales and marketing approach into its components and it is essential for all the elements to communicate and compliment each other in order to make company's initiatives a success. A prudent approach would be to specialize processes based on teams and their individual capacities like a dedicated team/resource for datamining and coordination, a marketing process/approach towards brand building, product development, communication, R&D, etc whose effectiveness to be measured based on the number of queries generated for business and a sales team for following up on queries and converting them into value for the organization.
Unless you're a small organization with limited resources in which case the same resources would perhaps fit different roles however it is always beneficial to deploy resources with respect to their specialization.

I believe that online marketing is better and more productive in the new age, but door to door and cold calling are also a good ways to market our products.
It's OK to use traditional ways of marketing but using new trends of marketing like social media and electronic marketing campaign is highly recommended to get more benefits
All kinds of marketing depends on what kind of product or sevice you are providing to your client. First of all create a need for your product, do marketing plan cold call, social media, door to door whatever. My shot answer is: Marketing depends on your product or service and your approach each client.
