Yes, in corporate world, sometimes, leaders practice authoritarian style of management. This is based on his/her conviction, perception, vision and attitude. This sort of style may be adopted for a very temporary period to manage specific organizational change and streamlining of activities.
However, in corporate world, authoritarian style is not recommended for long time and to be switched to team based management style for realization of optimum organizational output.
Some leaders practice authoritarian style management because they probably like to impose their decisions, but they also like to share their ideas and tastes and especially to make fold others to their will. They happen to change their minds simply to counter a subordinate and better assert themselves. They decide everything and control everything because they think that the people placed under their authority will never reach their competence in any of their fields of activity.

I dont think that a person uses only one style of leading people. I personally choose what style to use for who and what situation. As far as authoritarian style is concerned, i would use it if the person in front of me is adamant on something and i know its wrong, or there is very less time to discuss or consult and the job needs just to be done.
I do not believe that Authoritarian style itself is not good. I believe that a person should know when and how and why to deploy this style. Where I am right now, I feel the need a lot given the culture and the unprofessional lot I am dealing with. It does not make me happy as it is against my grain but as I said, sometimes it is necessary.

I do believe that this is due to the conflict or misunderstanding between the role of both the "Manager" and the "Leader" in some organizations.
