I believe that there is always somebody more knowledgeable than oneself. We can also learn from our students. I once conducted Safety training to the Firefighters and Intermediate Life Support personnel. The topic was Safety at an Accident scene. I gained valuable information about ones own saliva. Hepatitis b can remain active in ones saliva for a period of one year.
Let's look at how all of these advantages might occur together. For example, let's say that your organization is working to reduce the incidence of heart disease in your community. One of your actions is to host "heart healthy" cooking classes, demonstrating healthy recipes to people who have had heart problems and their families. In doing the class, you ask one of your newest employees to co-facilitate the class, helping her to hone her presentation and organizational skills. During the class, members learn new, healthier recipes, and they also learn healthy variations of old favorites. The facilitators also talk a little about the organization's purpose and upcoming events, and several class members decide it would be fun to help out at a community walk/run the organization is putting on in a few months. Finally, towards the end of the class, everyone brings in some of their favorite healthy recipes to share among themselves and for the facilitators to use at future trainings.
If you think you know everything and the people you are training can't teach you anything you shouldn't be a trainer. They may not have the knowledge you have about the specific thing you are trying to teach but they do have a different view on the subject and may spark a change in the way you train based on a simple question. I really can't think of an example at this time, but I always tried to listen, watch their eyes and body language for clues that what I was teaching made sense to them.
As a supervisor and a trainer i make sure that my staff are very well know all the cleaning procedure and materials they need. My staff is my image so i make sure before they go for the client they very well know all procedure they need
As we know, two heads are better than one. When people meet and interact ,they usually end up with what I call parallel or contradictory transaction.Personally, I feel happy when I learn new things from my trainees as this would bridge the gap between us and highlight the fact that learning is a matter of two-way interaction. When I train teachers, I learn from them how they deal with students and how they implement a certain strategy in class.I have learnt more vocabulary through interacting with my trainees.
As authorised trainer and memeber of the Organisation's Developement since long time, the main benifits which I have got to myself and my Organisation were :
- observed the weaknesses then been cleared and avoided
- got the inputs for planning the current and future manpower requirments
- obtained the required information to improve the whole qualities for success and to approch the final goals
- discovered the required positive skills and experienses from the trainees to be utiliozed to support the final goals
- improved my knowledgement and my experiences
Every training comes with personal benefit. Spending time with people and trying to understand their needs, we always meet different opinions. In this way I am forced to look for the correct answers, developing myself from knowledge and communication point of view.
As a trainer in Africa and the Middle East I saw immediate benefits of my staff training. I was able to convey management principles and concepts without violating any religious or familial beliefs. The people I trained largely came from the political or military communities. The persons I trained were able to take what they learned and integrate those ideas into their communities.
Training is part of my daily schedule, may it be my work place or home as I believe knowledge multiplies by sharing . I must say everyone is a trainer some believe in training themselves and some nurturing others get their share of contentment . Often we chance upon certain people during our training phase who add values to our training performance and make us a better trainer . I have trained different levels of people in various domain and what i earned is ideas , adopt different personalities , confidence ,handle difference in opinion & smile as you go.
I strongly believe that training is learning, not only for whom so ever is getting trained but the trainer him self.
Personally, I have gained experience and knowledge from the group I trained. Their day to day experience in different fields and what sort of problems they solve and how they managed solving it. That by it self is learning experience and benefitial.
Trainer doesnt mean you are intelligent, trainer is a leadership skill and as a leader you should also be a good listener. I gained knowledge from other people that I trained thru their questions. I worked for a brand which innovation never stops. There will be products that will be launched without any information. Thats where the group of skeptical starts to wonder. Whenever they ask questions that I cant provide the answers right away, I do search for it. I wont stop until I found the right one. Its not only them who gained the knowledge but also you. You learned from them.
